On July 29, 1943, Anne described the character of Mrs van Daan of being a fine one to talk, a hypocrite
who set a bad example but did not refrain from castigating other people. She is described as being
exceedingly pushy, egotistical, cunning, calculating and perpetually dissatisfied. On top of that there was
her vanity and coquettishness, Anne found her thoroughly despicable. Anne says that someday she might
write a book about her because Mrs was the epitome of being twofaced, she was pleasant and friendly to
strangers, especially men but insufferable when it came to those who knew her.
