how did bishop reform the convict?

The bishop changed the convict with his goodness. When the Bishop told the Sergeant that he had given the candlesticks to the Convict, and that he was his friend, the convict was startled. He was appalled at the Bishops kindness. Even more so, the Bishop gives the candlesticks to the Convict as a final act of kindness. The Convict ends up renewing his faith in himself, that he is not a beast, but a man, and now believes that there is some good in the world.
