how did india achieve the integration of princely states

1)  When India became independent in August 1947, it faced a series of great challenges. As a result of partition, 8 million refugees had come into the country from Pakistan.

2)  A major problem faced by India is that there were over 500 princely states each ruled by a maharaja or dewan.

3)  Hence, the need for drafting a Constitution that unites all the states into nation – state was written by drafting members

4)  A state was ceased to be ‘princely state’ as and when its prince agreed to merge with India or Pakistan or was defeated. Many states were retained as administrative units until 30th October 1955
