How did the ball prove to be a source of unlimited joy and sorrow for Matilda? From the lesson The Necklace

Dear Student

Mme Loisel was worried that she did not have any jewellery to wear to the ball and complained about this to her husband. He suggested that she wear some flowers so that she would look pretty in it. But she responded saying that it was untidy to dress in that manner when she was amongst rich women. Matilda was over- ambitious. She wanted to purchase a new dress just to attend a party. In the first part, we see Madame Loisel trying to please her own desires and self. This is a reflection of her proud and vain character. In the next part of the story, Matilda tries to please Madame Forestier by striving to repay the loss. She could have confessed her mistake but she sought an alternative way for this. In this story, we see the main character being vain to herself and to Madame Forestier.

Regards.
