How did the British try to improve the condition of women in India ? Which people wrote about it in magazines , newspapers etc.(their names)and how was it helpful?

Dear Student,
The British have an important contribution to make in uplifting the conditions of women in India. When the British colonisers first came to India, the social status of Indian women was in a deteriorating position. Slowly after the establishment of British colonial rule in India, the status of women started improving to a great extent in the society. This is because the Colonial government had passed various laws for the development of women in our country. Women were encouraged to go to colleges and universities for higher education. Moreover many laws were being passed against certain social evils against women like Sati, child marriage, infanticide, etc. So, there was a rapid breakdown in the prejudices and stereotypes against women during the British rule in India.
Many people like Pandita Ramabai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Tarabai Shinde, etc. wrote about the various issues related to women and stressed on their upliftment in the society. This resulted in the self realisation of many women about their present deteriorating status in the society who started to fight for their deserving rights in the society.
