how did the company improve the system of vernacular education after 1854?give your opinion on the new system.
The British have revolutionised the Vernacular system of education in India after 1854.Education policy in India began to be guided by the Wood's Despatch.The Despatch includes a number of valuable and fundamental recommendations for future educational development in India. It gave new direction to education and laid the foundation of the present Indian educational system. It solved many old educational issues like gradation of education, medium of instruction and proposed new schemes for future educational development in India with far reaching consequences.
The present system of education in India needs certain changes.Rote learning still plagues our system.Students learn only to score better marks in the examination.The colonial masters introduced education systems in India to create clerks and civil servants, and we have not deviated much from that pattern till today.Education in India is a medium to climb social and economic ladder.There is not much skill based or vocational education for average or mediocre students in India.
