how did the narrator come to know about mrs dorling and the address where she lived

Dear student 

Before the war, the narrator's mother had given away a lot of her possessions to Mrs. Dorling. She gave her daughter, clear instructions as to where she would have to go, and how to find Mrs. Dorling. She had given the narrator the house address-Number 46, Marconi Street, so that she may be able to find Mrs. Dorling, some day after the war, to reclaim the things that were given away.
