How did the the role of balcony become significant in the story?
Ausable is a very skillful detective. He made up a story about the imaginary balcony as a plan to get rid of Max from the beginning. Ausable had ordered for a drink and when the waiter turned up to serve them; he tricked Max into believing that the police was knocking the door, whereas it was only the waiter Henry who had come to serve the drinks. Max jumped out without knowing that there was no balcony either.
