How did Ustad bismillah Khan bring shehnahi to classical stage

Dear student,

Traditionally, the shehnai was part of the naubat or traditional ensemble of nine instruments found at royal courts. Those days, it was played only in temples and weddings. Ustad Bismillah Khan was trained by his uncle and inspired by the flowing waters of the Ganga. He practised hard in solitude in the temples of Balaji and Mangala Maiya.  He was able to invent and play raagas that were earlier thought to be beyond the scope of the shehnai. Bismillah Khan changed this by bringing it onto the classical stage.
