How do changes in temperature help in weathering rocks?

Dear Student, Weathering of rocks take place due to rain, river, wind, ice, temperature etc. Changes in tempertaure help is weathering rocks physically, when the temperature is hot the outer layer of rocks expand and when it is cold the outer layer of rocks contracts. This process of expansion and contraction causes stress on the rocks and the outer layer of rock peels out and hence weathering takes place. Regards
