how do we construct a quadrilateral using a compass . refer ex 4.2

The construction of quadrilateral with the help of compass can be understood by taking an example as:

Construct a quadrilateral ABCD such that AB = BC = 5.5 cm, CD = 4 cm, DA = 6.3 cm and AC = 9.4 cm.

Steps of Construction:

1) Firstly, we draw AC = 9.4 cm.

2) Now, we draw an arc taking A as center and 5.5 cm as the radius. Again, draw another arc with C as the center and 5.5 cm as the radius cutting the previous arc at B as shown in the figure.

3) Join AB and BC.

4) Draw an arc on the opposite side of B by taking A as center and 6.3 cm as the radius. Then, draw another arc with C as the center and 4 cm as the radius cutting the previous arc at D as shown in the figure.

5) Join AD and CD.

Thus, ABCD is the required quadrilateral.

In this a way a quadrilateral is constructed with the help of compass.

Hope you get it!!
