How do we electro plate a metal cup with silver only at the out side and not inside. What electrolyte should be used?ls it possible to electroplate something at a confined place?

1)
when we carry out electroplating of a metal , the part of the metal dipped in the electrolyte is electroplated.
So if we cover the mouth of the cup with some non metal, then the electrolyte will not enter the  inside of cup and only the oustside of the cup will be electroplated which acts as cathode for the electrolytic cell.

2)Electrolyte should be chosen such that it contains one or more than one metal ion and permits the flow of electricity through it.

3) Metal to be electroplated should be dipped in the electrolytic solution .So, yes you may but usually it is not possible to carry electrolytic cell to the place of metal  . Therefore it preferable and wise to take metal to the place of electrolytic cell.
