how do you infer that father wishes his son to remain at home with him?

The father hopes that in spite of the silence that envelops them and the ever-widening gap between them, he would prefer that his prodigal son returned to his father's house. He says that the son should come back to the home he knew rather than make and move his world. The father probably thinks that if the son moves out of the home, then there would be no chance of them every reuniting and that physical distance might prove to be the final nail in the coffin for their relationship. Living under the same roof still holds the possibility of reunion.
