How does a jaltarang work? I searched on the net and it said that the shorter the air coloumn above the water, the faster it vibrates, thus producing a higher pitch. Why is this so? I didn't understand at all and I really need help.

The cup vibrates when you strike it. The vibrating cup causes the air column to vibrate and the vibration of the column produces sound. Now, a shorter column will produce a sound of a higher pitch due to it's small size.
