How does atmosphere help in maintaining the temprature of the earth ?

1. Our atmosphere behaves like a green house that enters the radiations inside it but all radiations are not allowed to escape from this green house. As a result the temperature of plants inside this glass house remains warm. Similarly our atmosphere consists of layer of different gaseous that absorbs the visible and infrared radiations of sunlight in day time and as a result temperature of earth increases in daytime. But during night all these radiations are emitted from the surface of earth but this gaseous layer of atmosphere does not allow all infra red radiation to escape from the earth. As a result earth does not cool suddenly but in a warmer situation at night. In this way temperature of earth remains steady and maintained.
2. Moon lacks the basic amenities of life in the form of water, air and optimum temperature. Moon has a gravity of only 1/6 as that of earth and therefore the gaseous molecules travel at a greater speed than the escape velocity of moon’s gravitational field causing disappearance of air. It’s unimaginable to think of life without air. Also due to lack of gases in the moon’s atmosphere heat of the sun is not retained causing extremely low temperatures in moon. Water does not exist in liquid form due to lack of warmth and there is no life without liquid water
