How does deforestation lead to reduction of soil fertility?

Deforestation means there will be no trees. The trees hold the soil firmly and by this the rainwater is seeped into the ground and the soil becomes fertile when here ae no trees then soil will not be held firmly and it will loose its fertility as no water would be seeped in as soil will erode

Deforestation means cutting of trees. In the absence of trees, the rain water will hit the ground directly and this may cause floods in the surrounding areas. The roots of the trees help to bind the soil together. Therefore, the absence of trees may also lead to erosion of the loose soil. So due to soil erosion, soil fertility will decrease. Because topsoil is fertile.
