How does mechanical digestion help in the process of chemical digestion of food?

Mechanical digestion is a physical process which starts after ingestion of food. In mechanical digestion the breakdown of food takes place by teeth's through grinding & chewing. Thus it reduces the burden of digestion through digestive enzymes. Whereas, Chemical digestion is a type of digestion different enzymes act on the food & break it into smaller components. For eg- Pepsin is involved in the break down of proteins, Lipase helps in breakdown of fats.
