How does potassium play an important role in the opening and closing of stomata ?.

stomatal opening and clossing occur due to the active transport of Potassium ions in and out of the guard cells
during daytime the chloroplast in the guard cells photosynthesize which leads to the production of ATP. this ATP is used to actively pump the potassium ions of the adjacent cells into the guard cells. Increased potassium ion concentration in the guard cells makes them hypotonic as a result the turgor pressure increases due to EndoOsmosis this results in the opening of stomata.
reverse happens at night ..the potassium ion leave out and the turgor pressure of the guard cells reduces. this results in the closing of stomata.
this is how potassium is important for the opening and closing of stomata
