how does release of CO2 in the alveoli of the lung take place?

Dear student,

The exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in alveoli as well as in other tissues through diffusion.
As we know, the diffusion is primarily based on the pressure and concentration. The partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the atmospheric air, alveoli, and deoxygenated blood are 0.3, 40, and 45 mm Hg respectively.

Hence, the concentration gradient is present for carbon dioxide from blood to alveoli to the atmosphere. Therefore, the release of carbon dioxide from blood to alveoli takes place.
