How does segmentation of an Annelid worm differ from the repeating units of the body of a tapeworm (Platyhelminthes) ?

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to the asked query

Segmentation in annelids Segmentation in platyhelminthes
Segmentation of annelids is called true metamerism Segmentation of platyhelminthes is called pseudometamerism
Number of segments are fixed almost in each species Number of segments is not fixed because of addition of new segments continuously
In annelids, growth occurs due to simple elongation of pre existing segments  In platyhelminthes, growth occurs due to addition of new segments.
The segments are functionally integrated and interdependent and each segment does not posses full set of reproductive, excretory and circulatory organs. The segments are independent and contain full set of reproductive, excretory and circulatory organs.

Hope this information will clear your doubts about the segmentation of an Annelids and Platyhelminthes.
