How does the waves of sea and ocean raises to result in tsunami??

Dear Student,

1. Tsunami has been coined from the Japanese tern Tsu meaning harbor and name means waves. These waves are generated by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions or underwater landslides and can reach height of 15m or more causing devastating effects.
2.
Tsunamis  are the result of the earthquakes, volcanic eruption or landslides which are caused under the sea, this leads to displacement of water causing series of waves in the water body.
3.Tsunami are the result of any displacement in the water which may also be caused by any underwater explosion.
4. It is this displacement which causes waves, as they try to regain their equilibrium which has been impacted by earthquake or landslide beneath the sea.
5. Tsunami represent killer waves as they consist of series of waves, initial wave may not be the largest but serve as a potential warning.
6. The force of Tsunami is enormous as the waves can carry with them tons of large rocks, debris, boats and can destroy homes, buildings severely damaging infrastructure.  We may give example of 2004 Tsunami.
