How Electroplating is done by the tranfer of anion and cation? Please explain in detail with the image and formula.

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

Electroplating is a process by which a metal layer is deposited on another metal by the use of electricity. In this process, the metal on which electroplating is to be done is taken as cathode ( negative electrode) and the metal of which electroplating is to be done is taken as an anode ( positive electrode) and its salt solution is taken as electrolyte.

For example- Nickel is electroplated with silver by making nickel rod as cathode and silver as anode. The salt silver nitrate is taken as electrolyte.

Following reactions take place during the process.

At anode: Silver dissolves in the solution as ions

At cathode: Silver ions receive electrons and form a layer of silver on nickel rod.

Hope this clears your doubt.
Regards.
