Agrobacterium tumefaciens is a plant pathogen that inserts a piece of DNA called T-DNA , into the plants , that can convert normal cells into tumor and cancerous cells thus causing the death of the plants. Manipulation of this plant can lead to insertion of the required gene of interest into the plant. This is done by removing the gene responsible for tumor formation and insertion of the gene of interest . This cell now has the mechanism of the pathogen but is no longer harmful. Hence we can insert our gene of interest with ease.
