How is carbon monoxide harmful to human beings

Dear student, As we know haemoglobin of blood binds to the oxygen and carries them to the cell. Without haemoglobin oxygen cannot be transported. Carbon monoxide if enters the body directly binds with the haemoglobin in such a way that oxygen cannot bind with it. Thus haemoglobin fails to transport oxygen to the cells. Without oxygen cells cannot perform cellular respiration and energy cannot be released. As a result cells start dying up and our body starts feeling suffocated. Regards
