How is citrus canker in plants transmitted? Which kind of organism causes it?

Dear Student
Citrus canker is a contagious plant disease caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas citri pv. citri, affecting citrus and some other plant species. Citrus trees infected with citrus canker display unsightly lesions which can form on leaves, fruit and stems. Trees infected with the disease may suffer from low vigour and a reduction in fruit quality and quantity.

Citrus canker is mostly a leaf-spotting and fruit rind-blemishing disease, but when conditions are highly favorable for infection, infections cause defoliation, shoot dieback, and fruit drop.

It causes lesions on leaves, stem and fruits.

Anthrax is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. The infection is of three types based on the area of infection. The types and there symptoms are:

  1. Cutaneous anthrax: Infection of skin is referred to as cutaneous anthrax. An itchy sore develops on the skin which may blister and form a black ulcer. A scab may be formed which dries and falls off in 2 weeks. Complete healing takes more time.
  2. Inhalation anthrax: This type of infection is characterized by fever, headache, cough, chest pain, shortness of breath
  3. Gastrointestinal anthrax: The symptoms of this type of infection are abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, fever, mouth sores, nausea and vomiting
