how is colloid classified on the basis of charge? how will you account for the charge on these particles

Dear student,
Please find below the solution to your asked query.

On the basis of charge colloids are classified as

1.Positive colloids: The particles of colloids like Fe(OH)3 and Methylene blue show a positive charge in solution. The dispersed phase carries a positive charge.

2. Negative colloids: The particles of As2S3 sol in water show  a negative charge. Copper or gold sol and the sols of some metals also show a negative charge in solution. Dyes like Congo red and Eosin also show negative charges.

The charge on the particles is accounted /dependent on the  electrical charge of the dispersed phase. If the dispersed phase has a positive charge, they are termed as positive colloids, and if the dispersed phase has a negative charge, it is classified as a negative colloid.
