HOW IS EDDY CURRENT USEFUL IN  ELECTRIC POWER METERS?

Hi,

Eddy currents are the currents induced in a conductor, when placed in a changing magnetic field.

Electromagnetic induction meter works by counting the revolutions of an aluminium disc. Its speed of revolution proportional to the energy consumed. This disc is acted upon by coils. The magnetic flux linked with the coils changes periodically, this produce eddy currents in the disc. In the effect disc starts revolving proportion to the energy consumed (i.e. the product of instantaneous current and voltage).

Hope, you got the idea.
Best wishes!!
