How is land distributed beteween the farmers of palampur?

1. Palampur village has about 450 families belonging to several different castes.
2. The 80 upper caste families own the majority of land in the village.
3. Their houses, some of them quite large, are made of brick with cement plastering. The
4. SCs (dalits) comprise one third of the population and live in one corner of the village and in much smaller houses some of which are of mud and straw.
5. In Palampur, the higher castes and the rich and medium farmers possess most of the land.
6. Others which are composed of small and landless farmers possess very less land. .
