How is respiration reaction is oxidation reaction?

Solution :

Respiration is called the oxidation reaction because it involves the breakdown of glucose in the presence of oxygen to release carbon dioxide water and a large amount of energy.

Thus, the use of oxygen in the process leads it to be called an oxidation reaction.

Respiration is an oxidation reaction. Aerobic respiration takes place in presence of O2 and breaks down glucose. During aerobic respiration, oxygen gets reduced by donating an e- to H forming H2O . In this process glucose gets oxidised to produce carbon dioxide, water and energy.

Reaction -
C6H12O6? + 6O2 = 6CO2+ 6H2O + Energy
