How is the Arabian Sea branch of the Southwest Monsoons responsible for good rainfall in the Northern Plains of India? Why doesn't it give rain in the Central Peninsula?
Dear Student,
a. Arabian sea branch causes most of the rainfall in the Northern plains because of the south west monsoon winds that emanate from Arabian sea branch and are obstructed by the presence of western ghats, causing rainfall in the region.
b. Central Peninsula on the other hand lies on the leeward side which is referred to as the down wind direction.
c. It is at the the side which is opposite to which the wind is blowing.
d. Thus this area, does not receive good amount of rainfall from Arabian Sea branch, the moisture laden winds shed all their moisture before it reaches the leeward side.
