How many molecules of ATP are produced from (a) one molecule of pyruvic acid on it oxidation (b) Complete oxidation of one molecule of acetyl Co A?

Dear student,
a) If oxidation is anaerobic then pyruvate is converted into lactic acid with the utilization of one reduced NADH to form NAD+. But if the oxidation is aerobic then one molecule of pyruvic acid on complete oxidation produces 15 ATP through electron transport chain.
b) Complete oxidation of one molecule of acetyl Co A through electron transport chain produces 12 ATP.
Note: When it is assumed that one NADH produces 3 ATP through electron transport chain and one molecule of FADH produces 2 ATP through electron transport chain.
