How many valence electrons does carbocation and carbo anion have ?

Solution:

A neutral carbon atom contains 4 valence electron.
When a carbocation is formed then one electron is released, so in carbocation 3 valence electrons are present.
When a carbanion is formed then one electron is added, so in carbanion 5 valence electrons are present.
