How mercury harm our body?

Dear Student,
Mercury is one of the most toxic elements and is regarded as a highly poisonous pollutant. It can enter the body by ingestion, inhalation and can even penetrate through the skin. Its toxicity is because of its ability to inactivate many enzymes and proteins. It actually binds with the enzymes and proteins. This changes their active conformation and hence makes them ineffective. When enzymes do not function properly, the reaction they catalyse do not take place and this leads to accumulation of toxins in the body.
Mercury can cause giddiness, lung ad brain damage, loss of vision, deafness and even death. Also its compounds do not decompose easily and are have ill-effects on the environment.

Dear student
The inhalation of mercury vapour can produce harmful effects on the nervous, digestive and immune systems, lungs and kidneys, and may be fatal. The inorganic salts of mercury are?corrosive to the skin, eyes and gastrointestinal tract, and may induce kidney toxicity if ingested
