how nonmetals have low density

Dear student,

Density of non metals are low as compared to metals. If we compare material of same volume made up of metal and non-metal, material made up of metal have more mass. It means mass of non metals is low as compared to metals. Moreover intermolecular forces holding the molecules of non metals is very weak. Non-metals do not have permanent electrical polarity.
