How to convert an organic compound to another organic substance
Dear student
There are many methods to convert organic substance to another organic substance. Few examples are mentioned below.
1. Addition reactions: The reaction in which in which one or more reactants combine to form an adduct/product.
Hydrogenation of vegetable oils , is an example of addition reaction. In this reaction Hydrogen is added to a double bond
2. Elimination reactions:
The reactions in which a reactant breaks down into products by removal of an atom or a molecule.
The elimination reactions are reverse of addition reactions.
The Dehydration of alcohol is an example of elimination reaction , where a water molecule is eliminated.
3. Substitution reactions: A substitution reaction takes place when there is exchange of elements in the reactants.
Chlorination of methane is an example of substitution reaction.
CH4+ Cl2 CH3Cl + HCl
