how to count sigma bond and Pi bond give example with diagram in easy language explanation
Dear student,
Sigma bond is formed by head-to-head overlapping of orbitals while the pi bond is formed by lateral overlapping of orbitals. When there is only one bond, it is a sigma bond, if there are two bonds between atoms, one is a sigma and the other is a pi- bond. If there are triple bonds between two atoms, then one is sigma and the other two are pi-bonds.
Example-
In the above given example, there are 3 pi bonds in its structure and All single bonds are sigma bonds which are 15 in number.
