how to distingush between
1. ethanol and propoan-1-ol
2. propan-1-ol and 2-methyl propan -2-ol
1. Iodoform test : Ethanol gives a yellow precipitate of iodoform on reaction with iodine in NaOH while propan-1-ol does not react.

Lucas reagent: conc. HCl + anhydrous ZnCl2
Primary alcohol , propan-1-ol does not react while tertiary alcohol, 2-methylpropan -2-ol becomes cloudy immediately.
