To find the median, the data should be arranged in order from least to greatest. If there is an even number of values in the dataset, then the median is found by taking the mean (average) of the two middlemost numbers. For example:
To find the median of the numbers 7, 2, 8, 4, 9, 5.
First, arrange this data in ascending order of their values.ie. 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9
Since there is an even number of items in the data set, we compute the median by taking the average of the two middlemost numbers ie. 5 and 7.
5+7/2=6.
Therefore, the median of the even number of values in a given data is the mean of the middlemost values.
