How to know if a alkyl halide is 1?,2?,3???

Solution
An alkyl halide is primary (1º) if the halogen atom is attached to the carbon atom which is attached to one alkyl group such as RCH2−X.
Secondary (2º) alkyl halide has the halogen atom attached to the carbon atom which is attached to two alkyl groups such as R2CH−X.
Tertiary (3º) alkyl halide has the halogen atom attached to the carbon atom which is attached to three alkyl groups R3C−X.
