How was Ali looked at by the post office officials?

Ali had been visiting the post office every single day, at five in the morning, expecting a letter from his only daughter Miriam. The officials at the post office made fun of him. Although they had no letter from his daughter for him, they would call out his name, â€‹just to see his reaction. They also called him "a mad man" who worried them everyday sitting for hours at the post office.

Everybody in the post office knew Ali. He went there daily. He sat on the same bench everyday waiting for his name to be called. The postmen made fun of him. Even though there would be no letter for him, they would call out his name, just to see his reaction. The post office became a place of pilgrimage for Ali. Even bad weather could not deter him. He was always the first one to arrive to the post office.

the employes of the post office thought of ali as an odd person as he would come to the post office on a regular basis and would hope for a letter that he never recived in the last 5 years . as the post office was a dull place as mentioned in the story to have some fun they woul call out his name to see him jump in joy and rush for the letter and they would finally call him critcize him. he became a topic of practical jokes in the post office
