The Houyhnhnms treat Gulliver like a Yahoo as his appearance is quite similar to theirs. He is offered hay and flesh to eat as these are the preferred foods of the barbaric Yahoos. Finally, he is given milk to drink. The horses try to teach Gulliver some words in their language. He gets to sleep on straw.

After travelling three miles with Dapple Grey, Gulliver entered a large building made of timber. Suprizinglyhe found the horses employed for domestic chores. There were three rooms in the building. In the third room there was a comely mare, a colt and a foal sitting on their traunches. He understood that 'Yahoos' were detestable looking creatures very much like human figures, They were eating animal flesh which smelled rotten, The Dapple Grey and a guest ate boiled oats in milk. Gulliverrefused to eat both kinds of foods when offered. To save himself from starvation, Gulliver drank a bowlful of milk heartily. This shows that there was lack of good food for Gulliver.
