how was plantation promoted in india at the cost of forests during british period

Plantation was promoted in the following manner:

a. The British colonists were of the view that forest land was unproductive, as it involved no agricultural practises, hence did not yield any produce nor revenue.

b.Thus, to meet their need for tea, coffee,rubber, the British cleared large areas of natural forests to be used for tea, coffee and rubber plantations. 

c. The colonial government took over the forests and gave vast areas to European planters at cheap rates. 

d. The areas were enclosed and cleared of forests and planted with tea or coffee.
