how were the conservative indians affected by the company rule

Dear Student,

a. The British helped in reforming  societal traditions and customs. For example they passed law against sati.
b.They also passed a law  allowing widow remarriage for the purpose of reforming Indian society.
c. British believed that they were on a civilizing mission, and identified grave errors in the knowledge of the east which they believed was unscientific and regressive.
d. They sought to encourage English education,
that would help them to consolidate their rule.
e.The above changes were certainly not appreciated by conservative Indians, who considered it as unnecessary interference by the British  in their social customs and rituals
f. People also feared that by virtue of the activities of Christian missionaries, British would engage in conversion and would also wipe out Hinduism and Islam.
g.They argued that spread of English education would make people question the existing beliefs and that people would become rebellious.
h. Further, it was an attempt on part of the colonial regime to maintain their cultural superiority .
