 how would  u experimentally distinguish between  an alcohol and a carboxylic acid?

 by using sodium carbonate...inalcohol..there would be no reaction  but in acid...co2 gas will be evolved

 litmus paper test-

Blue litmus in alcohol no change but blue litmus in carboxylic acids turns red.

KMnO4 IS IN PINK COLOUR:-

alcohol - saturated compound - when added to KMnO4  no colour change.

carboxylic acid - unsaturated - when added to kmNo4 PINK COLOUR DISAPPEARS DUE TO OXIDATION.
