If the emperor had rewarded me, I would have felt happy that my devotion to my parents was recognised. However, regardless of the reward, I would have continued to take care of my parents. Taro was an obedient son. He would have felt happy that the emperor rewarded him and recognised his devotion towards his father and mother. Moreover, he was poor and wanted to earn extra money for taking care of his parents. The reward given by the emperor would help him to attend to his parent's needs.
