Dear Student,

1. Soft water and distilled water differ due to the dissolved mineral content. Soft water contains low quantities of dissolved minerals like Ca2+, Mg2+ whereas mineral water donot contain any dissolved minerals.

2. Hard water contains high amount of dissolved minerals. If hard water is used in boilers, then over a period of time boiler gets crusted with largerly calcium sulphate, calcium carbonate and magnesium oxychloride called as boiler scales. This deposition reduces the efficiency of the boiler and damages them. Therefore, hard water are harmful for boilers.
