I cannot understand the anti-apartheid struggle and nelson mandela 's contribution about anti-apartheid

Dear Student,

The anti-apartheid struggle is one of the most iconic struggle started in 1912 between the apartheid regime of South Africa and those who resisted it. The apartheid regime in South Africa based on segregation , repression and violence to subjugate the majority black population , for more than four decades. The regime came to an end because of the efforts of the Black South African Nationalist movement , Member of African National Congress and other groups. These movement and struggle against regime led to the rise of Nelson Mandela , an activist who dedicated his life to eradicate racism and went on to become South Africa's first black President. Nelson Mandela is known to bring South Africa out of apartheid and into an era of  majority rule.
After the adoption of Apartheid by the ruling party , life of Black South Africans became miserable. At first Mandela and his fellow ANC members used non violent methods to protest against apartheid but it remained unsuccessful. This led to Mandela to escalate the struggle and violate laws. Mandela and others were jailed to violate the laws and breaking curfews.in 1964, he was sentenced to life in prison. Mandela became the world's best known political prisoner during his 27 years of imprisonment. After the release of Nelson Mandela from the prison ,in 1994, ANC became the political party winning more than 62 percent of the popular vote in a peaceful, democratic election and Nelson Mandela became the president of a new nation, South Africa.

Regards.
