I crossed to oblivion, and the curtain of life fell. When did Douglas think so ?

As he was tossed into the deep end of the pool, Douglas landed in a sitting position, swallowed water and went at once to the bottom. He was frightened but still sensible enough to plan on how to get out of it. The bottom seemed a long way down, the nine feet seemed more like ninety and before he touched the bottom his lungs seemed ready to burst. He summoned all his strength when his feet hit the bottom and then made what he thought was a great spring upwards. Instead of rising to the surface, he realized that he was still in the water which a dirty yellow tinge to it. He began to grow panicky and started to suffocate. He tried to yell but there was no sound. Then his eyes and nose came out of the water but not his mouth which led him to flail on the surface, choking and swallowing more water. His body seemed like a dead weight to him and a great force was pulling him under.He began to sink back to the bottom of the pool.
