Hello,

Preposition is a word placed before a noun or a pronoun to show in what relation the person or thing denoted by it stands in regard to something else.
It literally means, ‘that which is placed before.’

There are various relations expressed by prepositions such as, place, time, contrast, inference, measurement, rate, value, etc. Prepositions of places can be understood with the help of the following instances:
-  Travelled towards north pole;
-  Lay under the shade;
-  Lies near his heart;
-  London is on the Thames;
-  Distance between Australia and Asia;
-  In the sky;
-  Leaned against the wall;
-  Ran across the street, etc.

Hope this helps!
