I have a general question regarding apostrophe in english. For example - if we say ; shyam's and ramu's phone . Is it correct ? Or should we say ; shyam and ramu's phone . Which one is correct. Kindly answer experts. Thanking you in advance .

Dear Student,
Given below is the answer to your question.

The use of apostrophe is to denote the possession or description about a thing or quality with a person.
For example, John's truthfulness is known in the city.
                     Meera's scooter is parked outside.

In the above given instance, the question is whether you are referring to two phones, one belonging to Shyam and the other to Ram. If these are two objects, you have to say, Both, Ram's and Shyam's phone are missing. In case they have a common phone you can say, Ram and Shyam's phone.

I hope you find this answer helpful. Please post more questions on the forum to be assisted by our team.
Thank you.
